Essential instructions for transactions in currency other than Euro

You may choose whether your transaction will be performed directly in Euro or the local currency of the country you are in. In particular:

  • In order to perform the transaction in Euro, you will have to choose the respective option when the relevant message appears on the POS or ATM screen during the transaction. If you say yes, the transaction amount in Euro will appear on the screen, along with the conversion exchange rate, as well as the conversion fee, as charged by the other bank. Then you may choose whether to continue with this option (Yes/No) and the transaction is either completed or canceled.
  • If you choose to perform the transaction in the local currency of the country you are in, the currency conversion that your card will be charged with, is calculated by the National Bank of Greece, based on the foreign exchange rate set by Mastercard and Visa international organizations.

Can I track the total charges regarding my transactions?

For transactions performed in countries within the European Union, Iceland, Liechtenstein and Norway, in currency other than Euro, and according to the statutory framework of the European Union (EU Regulation ΕΕ2021/1230), we offer a useful tool, where you can view the total charge for these transactions, in light of the latest available foreign exchange reference rates of the European Central Bank (ECB).

Any questions?
