Strong Customer Authentication is a control process that verifies a card owner (whether credit, debit, or prepaid card) when he/she makes an online transaction and ensures the transaction is carried out by him/her.
This process is enforced by Directive (EU) 2015/2366 on payment services (PSD2 – L 4537/2018), which was incorporated into the Greek legislation by Law 4537/2018. According to the said Regulation, strong customer authentication identifies the cardholder based on the use of at least two of the following three elements:
